  • Best Soundtrack in a Feature Film or Theatric Documentary

    This award recognises outstanding composition for a feature film or theatrically released documentary. Particular attention will be paid to how well the music enhances the visual content, the dynamics of the music in relation to the visuals and the emotional impact the music has in conjunction with the visuals. Success of the movie or theatric documentary will not be used as a determining factor.

  • Best Song or Composition in a Television Production

    This award will recognise outstanding composition for a television programme. Particular attention will be paid to how well the music enhances the visual content, the dynamics of the music and how it complements the programme. Success of the television production will not be used as a determining factor.

  • Best Song or Composition in a Television Commercial

    This award recognises outstanding composition for a television commercial. Particular attention should be paid to how well the music enhances the visual content, compliments the tone and feel of the commercial, making the 30, 45 or 60 second advert captivating for the viewer.

  • Best Song or Composition in a Radio Commercial

    Recognising outstanding composition for a radio commercial. Particular attention should be paid to how well the music enhances the script, tone and feel of the commercial.

  • Best Creative Album of the Year

    This award will acknowledge the album as a body of work. The album must be 40 minutes long and entries will be judged with particular reference to exceptional songwriting and consistency. The selection by the judges will not be based on sales, but on merit of the songwriting, the lyrical content, the balance of songs on the album and spectrum of variety to make for a complete and enjoyable musical experience. Consideration will not be made based on the number of hits on the album nor number of singles.

  • Songwriter of the Year

    The award needs to be presented to a composer/author who has, over the course of the year, made a significant impact / contribution in the writing/co-writing of an array of works and hits for a multitude of South African artists from all genres, styles and languages. Sales figures will be taken into consideration as well as having the highest volume of covers in a year, placements or co-writes which have received considerable exposure, generated tremendous sales and extensive performances.

  • Best South African Duo/Group

    The Duo or Group should have written at least 70% of the album for it to qualify for consideration. The choices will be drawn from the Duo or Group having extensive international broadcast awareness, sales achievements, media and live performance activity. Consideration will be given for creative execution of the compositions which enhance and promote the brand from a musical perspective. The award is presented on the basis of creative achievements, as opposed to just having sold the most.

  • Best Female Artist & Composer/Co-composer

    It will be required that the female performer/composer has written at least 50% of the album for it to qualify for consideration. The choices will be drawn from the Female composer having extensive broadcast awareness, sales achievements, media and live performance activity. Consideration will be given for the creative diversity of the compositions which enhance and promote the brand from a musical perspective. The award is presented on the basis of creative achievements, as opposed to just having sold the most.

  • Best Male Artist & Composer/Co-composer

    It will be required that the male performer/composer has written at least 50% of the album for it to qualify for consideration. The choices will be drawn from the male composer having extensive broadcast awareness, sales achievements, media and live performance activity. Consideration will be given for the creative diversity of the compositions which enhance and promote the brand from a musical perspective. The award is presented on the basis of creative achievements, as opposed to just having sold the most.

  • Lifetime Achievement Award

    The recipient of this award needs to have been a creative driving force within the music industry for more than 20 years, be a fundamental musical and cultural influence within the development and success of the South African music industry and be a leading figure in the promotion of South African music on the world stage. The recipient may also be a pioneer of giving 'back to the community', demonstrating mentorship initiatives that they drive by serving the music community or being involved in youth development of music in the country. The recipient will also have shown a consistent delivery of great music within the country, a broad presence in South Africa and have a significant catalogue of excellent works.

  • Breaking through the Borders Award

    The recipient of this award must be a composer who has carried the country's musical flag, breaking down the borders and promoting SA's rich and diverse music genres in territories outside SA. The recipient will also have needed to reach other territorial achievements, such as chart positions, major touring activity and/or sales of particular stature, music recognition awards or other attributed accolades.

  • Publisher of the Year

    The award will be based on how successful a music publisher has been in branding and promoting its local composer/s and author/s, both in SA and other territories, and which has resulted in multiple and varied sales, live and broadcast performances, accolades/awards, tour successes, profile building, media coverage, publisher procured cover recordings, collaborative composer synergies and successful placements by the publisher within the medium of TV Productions, Advertisements and Film, all of which need to be submitted and validated by the person/party/entity making a submission for Publisher of the Year.

  • Prolific Catalogue of Works Award

    The recipient of this award must be a composer or author, whose catalogue of works has not only consistently grown, but has also been active and an inspiration to the industry over a considerable period of years. His or her works must be regarded as a significant body of great compositions and whose catalogue not only delivers consistent returns but whose works are highly respected and revered.

  • Prolific Publisher's Achievement Award

    This award will be given to the publisher who shows consistent commitment to its composers & authors from an exploitation, delivery, creative involvement and efforts to ensure career development. This award will not only apply to the signing of successful acts, but consideration will be made on commitment and a creative involvement towards composers and authors by signing them before they procure a record agreement, developing the composer, band or act to the point of being high enough from a profile and/or stature perspective, therefore becoming a "self-sufficient" composer or author. The publisher should also been seen to showing commitment for the development and support of all South African music genres.

  • SAMRO Award for Broadcast and Live Performances

    This award is determined by SAMRO's statistics within the previous annual processing period, whereby the composer/author/s works have received the most documented plays incorporating both live performance and all forms of broadcast internationally.
